REP. RYAN: Was it a good idea to spend taxpayer dollars on electric cars in Finland or on windmills in China?
VICE PRESIDENT BIDEN: Look —
REP. RYAN: Was it a good idea to borrow all this money from countries like China —
VICE PRESIDENT BIDEN: (Chuckles.)
REP. RYAN: — and spend it on all these various different interest groups?
VICE PRESIDENT BIDEN: Let me tell you it was a good idea. It was a good idea — Moody’s and others said that this was exactly what we needed that stopped us from going off the cliff. It set the conditions to be able to grow again. We have — in fact, 4 percent of those green jobs didn’t go under — or went — went — went under — didn’t work. It’s a better batting average than investment bankers have. They have about a 40 percent — (inaudible) — loss.
REP. RYAN: Where are the 5 million green jobs that were being promised —
So Biden thinks what Moody’s says about the plans of Obama or of Democrats or of Congress matter.
Moody’s threatened to downgrade the US government on September 11, 2012.
==Moody’s Statement on US government downgrade warning September 11, 2012
The MIS unit is the one Stanford Professor J. Darrell Duffie sits on the committee supervising it from the outside board.
As discussed at the above thread, the Russian government has posted a document by Professor Duffie on its webpages starting in December 2005 that might be the subject matter of an inquiry or at least potentially embarrassing to Moody’s.
Moody’s is claiming that by having a Stanford professor sit as head of the MIS Committee of its board that
- Moody’s is objective.
- Moody’s is not subject to outside pressure when it upgrades Russia or downgrade threatens the US government.
- Moody’s uses sound methodology.
VP Biden is saying he is impressed by Moody’s objectivity and reliability in evaluating the budget of the US government. This was said by Biden yesterday, after the Moody’s downgrade notice on September 11, 2012. Thus Biden is confirming on October 11, 2012, yesterday, that he still considers Moody’s objective and reliable when it opines on the credit and budget of the US government.
