Is intelligence about focusing away from the self?

Is intelligence the ability to realize that something is not about me?  The more one can focus on something as existing outside of my feelings and needs, the more intelligent I am?

Problem solving is related to this?  Math structure is?

Math education tends to fall back into letting students focus on themselves?  Activities and games that are not really about a math explanation that actually implies a rule fall into this trap?

Axioms, definitions, theorems, formulas and proofs are a way to force focus away from the self?  This is why they are so hard?
