Words are good as long as they are a story about us?

In math ed, words about math are not good because to read and write them you really have to understand it.  Thus the horror at lengthy explanations in words.

What we want is a story in words about us.  Which isn’t math.

So we tell a story about some character we can imagine is us and ignore the math.  We then call that a lesson.
